Whakatū Marae

About

Whakatū Marae is an Incorporated Society made up of the six mana whenua iwi of Whakatū, namely; Ngāti Koata, Ngāti Kuia, Ngāti Toa Rangatira, Ngāti Rarua, Ngāti Tama, and Te Ātiawa. Whakatū Marae aims to promote the mana of whānau in Whakatū through the practises of Marae Tikanga and Tikanga Māori. The vehicle to achieve these outcomes are varied and many, such as wānanga and other educational activities, Waka Ama, Health and Social service provision and housing. Whakatū Marae is also contracted to provide Whānau Ora services, Counselling and Social Work particularly in the area of at risk tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau living within the Nelson, Richmond, Tapawera and Motueka districts. Our Vision: To be united, innovative, and the leading marae in Te Tau Ihu ō te Waka a Maui, ensuring Tinorangatiratanga is able to flourish for the benefit of our whānau, hapū, iwi and our mokopuna
