Te Pouhere Kōrero 11
Elements of our research will be published in a special edition (no. 11) of Te Pouhere Kōrero. Edited by Melissa and Aroha, this collection of essays will demonstrate the myriad ways that the wellbeing of whānau is central to Māori historical and contemporary realities. We are interested in wellbeing and whānau (and whānau ora) in a broad sense, spanning the intimacies of daily whānau lives to the sweeping impositions of the state. The essays will investigate the ways our understandings about whānau ora have shifted over time or been immersed into our everyday lives; the ways they have been subject to policy making, including surveillance, policing, and regulation; the values and guidance we can discern from those realities and lives; and how our practices as researchers and writers reflect and embody what we learn as we learn it.
We'll post more about the journal as we get closer to the publication date (April 2025). In the meantime, you can read more about the Te Pouhere Kōrero, including previous editions, here.
He Rau Tumu Kōrero 2025
We are planning a research hui for April 2025. To be held in the Hokianga at a venue to be confirmed, this hui will bring together Māori historians and Hokianga-based kai-kōrero who contributed interviews, for three days of wānanga. Details will be posted here as they become available.
